Hello!
Just a few short weeks ago the concept of integral health
was not a part of my life; today it is a part of me and with each meditative
practice I gain a fuller understanding of health, happiness and wholeness. This
week’s meditative practice gave me a feeling of peace yet I also felt rejuvenated.
I trust the best way for me to continue to apply these practices in my life is
to reread both books from this class as I believe I will gain a greater
understanding. In addition, set time aside each day for practice.
“One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself”
How do you describe the color red if you have not seen it?
Or, how do you describe the feeling of hot or cold if you have not experienced
it?
As a health and wellness professional it is essential I have
the experience and expertise in my field in order to teach others. Plus, it is
necessary that my lifestyle mirror that of what I am teaching; otherwise how do
I expect my clients to believe in something that I myself do not. I implement
psychological and spiritual growth into my personal life through mediation,
physical exercise, reading the bible and by eliminating unnecessary stressors
in my life.
Michelle
you are so right, I have gone to doctor who told me I could lose some pounds and his nurse weight at the very least 2x as much as me. It is hard as a patient to look at those who should be the vision of health and see that they are in the same situation or worse then you are. There is no hope of becoming better if those that know or should know can't do it.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I love the examples that you give about the color and the
ReplyDeletefeelings of hot/cold. It is true that it is beneficial to yourself,
first and foremost to exemplify the lifestyle that you are teaching.
Also, it is beneficial to the ones you are teaching because, as you
say, they are looking to you as an example. I differ in opinion, though,
because, while it IS beneficial, if a person is TRULY committed to
change their lifestyle and are dedicated to doing so, they are going
to with the help of whomever they get it from. That means, even if
their instructor is not living what she/he is teaching, if that instructor
has studied the practice and KNOWS what to do to improve your lifestyle,
most people are still going to take pointers from them because they KNOW
what they are talking about, even if they don't implement the practices
in their own life. You sound like you are on the right path, keep up the
good work!
Michelle,
ReplyDeletePeople can tell if you "practice what you preach" I used to see a doctor that was very overweight, I noticed he started loosing a lot of weight. I said to him one day how he was looking good from weight loss and he said I can't very well tell my patients to loose weight if i am overweight. I thought he was exactly right. If I told a patient they must stop smoking but then I was a smoker it would defeat my purpose, they would see me and think well why should I stop if they won't? We most definitely learn by example
Hi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that you have been able to incorporate these exercises into your everyday life and I think its important that we look at these as practices not tasks for class. Each time we do these exercises and enjoy them we are moving closer to achieving our goals.
I really loved your argument about the color red! If you never have seen this color how could you describe it...thats really awesome and you hit it right on the nose about health and wellness. You always want to be able to practice what you preach.
